Tera Plaugher Picture Tera Plaugher gives a couple of reasons her scoring average rose during the latter part of her freshman basketball season at Cloud County Community College.

“My confidence got better,” Plaugher says. “Plus, it was getting close to Region VI, and I knew I had to pick up my game.”

Don’t overlook that second reason. Thunderbird coach Brett Erkenbrack describes her as “real competitive,” and she has the performances to back that label. Overall during her freshman season Plaugher averaged 6.8 points and 4.9 rebounds. During the four games of the Region VI tournament she averaged 11.3 points.

A Lima, Ohio, native, she starred in basketball and softball for tradition-rich Lima Bath High School. A shortstop for the state championship softball team, Plaugher sparked the rally that led to victory in the title game. Those experiences provided great memories and contributed to her competitive spirit. “In high school most teams were out to get us, so we had to be ready for every game,” Plaugher recalls. “I think that helped make me a hard-nosed player.”

Of course the 5-7 guard also has talent. “She’s very strong, is good off the dribble, and a good passer,” Erkenbrack comments. As a freshman Plaugher averaged 2.9 assists and 1.5 steals a game, but the numbers on the scoreboard are the ones that interest Plaugher. She sums up what she likes best about basketball in one word: “Competing." —Story by www.studentprofileservices.com Fall 2002
